Omega Bridge, Gerringong, NSW

16-03-2015

The Omega Bridge on the south coast of NSW (Gerringong) opened to traffic on the 13th of February 2015. The Bridge is over 340 metres long and is the centrepiece for the $329 million Princess Highway upgrade between Gerringong and Gerroa. The Bridge is a 7-span concrete box girder bridge. Interestingly, the Bridge was constructed using the method known as incremental launching, in which segments are pushed and added to the Bridge so to connect with the previous segment.

This method was previously seen in the Illawarra in 2005 with the construction of the Sea Cliff Bridge. This method reduced the amount of cranes needed to assemble the Bridge while at the same time, decreasing the environmental impact. The project took over 600,000 hours to complete
