SAFETY ALERT: Operator Charged $375,000

NonAbel Concrete Pumping Pty Ltd. has been fined $375,000 by the NSW District Court. This comes after a worker was fatally injured by an unsecured hose at a Fairfield worksite in 2017. ManagingDirector of NonAbel, Bilal Hamdam, was fined $10,000 and ordered to complete a risk management and due diligence course conducted by a Registered Training Organisation.

The cause of the incident can be attributed to the operator attempting to blast out a blockage within the delivery line with compressed air, the force from the compressed air caused a metal coupling to hit the operator in the head, killing him. It was later found out that the operator was on a bridging visa and had only been employed by NonAbel for "between three and seven days".

It was determined that Mr Hamdan and the company had failed to comply with the duty to ensure the health and safety of its workers.

Nonabel Concrete Pump Pty Ltd. and Mr Hamdan have the right to lodge an appeal to the courts.
