AS 3600:2018 - What Impact Will it Have on You?
Australian Standard AS3600 was recently updated and released in 2018. The challenges during this revision have led to a number of questions from designers and specifiers, as well as practitioners and suppliers.
The Concrete Institute of Australia will be presenting a symposium in April 2019 to focus on the recently released AS 3600 code, providing up to date information on the changes, why they have occurred and the impact it will have on performance.
Speakers will provide design examples, explaining the changes and highlighting any of the ambiguities in the Standard. The event also aims to uncover the sections of AS 3600 that are seen as unworkable by some designers and determine solutions to these problems.
The seminar will also include a forum involving locally based representatives of the AS 3600 BD2 committee, and users of the code such as consultants, asset owners, and concrete practitioners, who will come together to answer questions, consider concerns and provide clarity.

Jim is a Life Member of the CIA and has been the Chair of the BD2 committee for AS3600 for several years.

The AS 3600:2018 Concrete structures standard sets out minimum requirements for the design and construction of concrete buildings, structures and members that contain reinforcing steel or tendons, or both. It also sets out minimum requirements for plain concrete pedestals and footings.
Alison will discuss the challenges faced by Standards Australia when publishing a principle code such as AS 3600, the formidable challenges faced by the committee who oversee the editing AS 3600, and why AS3600 has been included in the National Construction Code in 2019.
