Standards Update Review - AS 2550.15 - Concrete placing equipment

The Concrete Pumping Association of Australia plays an important role in representing the concrete pumping industry to Australian governments and other stakeholders to ensure the best outcomes for members in terms of the sustainability of the industry and safety of employees. One very important role is representation to Australian Standards for AS 2550.15 - Concrete placing equipment. Standards Australia has released the draft for confidential consideration during March 2015 for endorsement and approval before submitting to the main committee, prior to public distribution. Omega Bridge, Gerringong, NSW

The Omega Bridge on the south coast of NSW (Gerringong) opened to traffic on the 13th of February 2015. The Bridge is over 340 metres long and is the centrepiece for the $329 million Princess Highway upgrade between Gerringong and Gerroa. The Bridge is a 7-span concrete box girder bridge. Interestingly, the Bridge was constructed using the method known as incremental launching, in which segments are pushed and added to the Bridge so to connect with the previous segment.

Not shaken or stirred, but pumped! the Martini Glass Aquarium

As cool as James Bond may be, he doesn't quite measure up to the 1.9 million litre Martini Glass Aquarium, which is currently under construction at the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science in Miami, Florida. The pour was overseen by Skanska and took 300 workers 25 hours to complete. The workers we broken up into two shifts and managed to pump the 917 cubic meters of concrete in the timeframe provided without a single crack. As the concrete had to be set in one pour, the project required 131 concrete trucks.

See a need, fill a need with a concrete pump!

UK -- Approximately 50m3 of liquid floor screed was pumped through a 43-metre Schwing pump and 50 linear meters of static line to infill the floor. The solution to installing a new floor inside Wembley Stadium’s Bobby More Suite was to park a pump truck pitch-side and extend the boom up into the stands.

Worksafe VIC: Concrete Safety Initiative getting active

The newly formed Concrete Safety Initiative of Victoria (CSI Victoria) recently held a meeting of key industry leaders to look at ways of improving safety within the domestic concreting industry. CSI is currently working with the Victorian Volume Home Builders Safety Alliance to ensure that everyone involved in the task is contributing in a positive way towards compliance.
